Launching your Program
Getting you program started is a very exciting opportunity to reach out to passionate students. First, you need to get the word out about your program. I suggest sharing the YouTube video with teachers on your campus to show students. At the junior high, level we had science teachers show the video and info students about the program. I also suggest creating a webpage on your campus webpage to inform students and parents of the program. Here is the Alvin Junior High SeaPerch website and a link to the official SeaPerch site for information to complete your campus website.
There are main two ways to select students for your SeaPerch program. I prefer to have an open application process so all students on the campus have an opportunity to participate. I have provided an unedited version of the application I created for this on the main resource page Other campuses have offered the opportunity to participate to teacher selected students and asked if they would be interested. This approach has a pro in that teachers can create a "dream team." At the same time, this approach denies students who may be passionate about engineering the opportunity to participate.

Organizing your program
This year, all campuses will have an application process to select their SeaPerch teams. We, as a district, need to make sure we are providing the same opportunities to all students. Alvin ISD is committed to ALL students in every program. To properly reflect this vision, our programs like SeaPerch shouldn't be exclusive to students in GT or Cluster classes. The most successful SeaPerch programs from last year selected their students based on the passion and enthusiasm for the opportunity.
On the main Resources page I have provided a letter in official letter that describes the SeaPerch program. The letter has my personal contact information and the Alvin Junior High meeting times, so you only need to replace it with your campus information. I also have an application for students to complete and parents to sign. Your campus's other extra curricular activities and your SeaPerch Campus Sponsors' schedule will determine the days and times your program meets. Meeting at once a week for a hour would be the minimum a program could meet and be prepared for the district SeaPerch competition on December 6th. Last year, some elementary campus would meet for a two hour session, once a week. You should be done building the ROV by early November to ensure enough practice time before the district meet and Regional meet.
